Forbes Riley has made a career of selling the healthy lifestyle. For the better part of 2 decades Forbes has been responsible for selling over $2 billion worth of in-home fitness and wellness products, including Jack LaLanne’s Juicer and her own product, the Spin Gym.
In 2010 Forbes will be inducted in the National Fitness Hall of Fame in recognition of her tireless efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle. Forbes has been successful in this highly competitive field because she believes in the products that she promotes and practices what she preaches.
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to meet Forbes and talk with her about her career in the fitness and wellness field, and in the process learn about her philosophy regarding living a healthy lifestyle. Within the first few minutes it was clear that Forbes doesn’t just pay lip service to the commitment of living a healthy, balanced life-style.
In an era when so many people are of the, “Do as I say, not as I do,” variety, Forbes clearly can be classified as a, “Do as I do,” person. It was good to know that we were on the same page about major tenets of fitness philosophy, such as quality of exercise is more important that quantity, variety in routine and choosing activities that are fun is necessary for long-term adherence to exercise, and finally that action is always better than inaction.
On this last point, Forbes has introduced her Spin Gym to the market, as she recognizes that there are people who cannot or will not make the time to exercise. For many people the way to a healthier lifestyle starts with baby steps, and Forbes is doing her best to get people to move, even if it’s just for 5 minutes a day while they are sitting at a desk.
The path to commitment to -and consistency of – exercise can start with just 5 minutes of activity. The Spin Gym is Forbes Riley’s statement of commitment to give everyone a chance to enjoy the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle.
