Omega-3 Fish oil supplements are a worthwhile investment, as evidence shows that this dietary supplement may provide a wide-range of health benefits.  When you consider that following a quality fish oil supplement regimen costs about $47 a year (13 cents/day), fish oil supplementation is a good move…

Now before you take any supplement you should always consult with your physician.  Now that we have that out of the way, let’s get on with it.

There are a lot of companies pushing a lot of expensive supplements out there, but omega-3 fish oil pills are the best dietary supplement bargain.  Omega-3s have been studied extensively and apparently offer a wide-range of benefits ranging from preventing cardiovascular disease to lowering LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides.

The American Heart Association recommends that everyone consume at least two 3-ounce servings of fish, such as salmon or mackerel, per week.  Practically speaking, a lot of folks won’t follow this recommendation because they don’t like fish or because of the expense, so fish oil nutritional supplements offer a great way for people to get the proper dose of omega-3s.

As is the case with most drugs and supplements, there are also studies that indicate some of the benefits offered by fish oil have been overstated.  But the vast preponderance of data indicates that fish oil does offer benefits, and since there have been no reports of adverse effects from following an omega-3 fish oil regimen, spending 90 cents a week is a good investment.

There is a variety of brands of fish oils and a big disparity in prices among these brands as well.  Don’t make the mistake of thinking that the more expensive brands are better, because if you do you could spend seven times more money than you have to.

For instance, for a year’s supply Kirkland Signature Natural Fish Oil will cost you about $47, or 13 cents a day.  But if you buy Solgar’s Omega-3 “700” you’ll spend $337 per year, and 90 cents a day.

There’s no reason to spend 90 cents a day on the Solgar brand when the Kirkland offering of omega-3s costs you 90 cents a week.  But if any of you feel better by spending more, by all means go ahead. As far as nutritional supplements go, omega-3 fish oil pills are one of the best investments that you can make.
